Miri Old Market

Name: Miri Old Market

Location: Town

Food type: Chinese

Operating time:
TBC
What's special?: Yao Cha Guai, Chee Cheong Fen

Price range: Less than RM10

This is, i believe, the oldest market in Miri and soon to be one of the original structure left in Miri after all the redevelopments on all other shop lots around. Anyway, another great place which you can find good food and price is good too :). Meant to cover the legendary curry rice over there but fail to have them open for straight 5 days. So i go for one of the oldest family-operated yao cha guai in Miri (my distance relative by the way :D)

The stall had been operating for many years and now it has gone from generation to generation and i think now it is nearly reach the third generation. Another stall they have which is operated by their sons are at New Yakin Food Court which is part of my list to have a review. Yaw Cha kuai is actually a mixture of dough which make it into stick shape and stick two together to have them deep-fried. Definitely one of the favourite of Mirian at all time. It is best served while it is hot and the older generation like to eat them by dipping into their dark coffee. Nowadays the trend goes to dipping kaya (a spread normally for breads which made of egg white, sugar, pandan leave).

Oh yes. It is also available in half-cooked packaging where anyone can buy and fried it at home too! I saw it in Ng Siang Hap and not sure other supermarkets/hypermarkets had them.

Another thing which i missed soooooooo much that i had it when i was young and definitely it is very hard to find in Miri now. Well, someone in old market did it! It is called Chee Cheong Fen BUT not the type that served hot in Dim Sum place that wrapped with prawns, chicken or barbeque pork. This is served in room temperature and pour chili sauce and some kind of sweet sauce on top and finally sprinkled with sesame seeds. It taste good and you should give it a try too!

There's more food over there which i have not covered yet. I will plan to return there and find more good food when i am free :D
