Another night outings with a few friends for a so-called simple dinner. We were at Jing Wood Cafe, serving varieties of food and with their famous steak stall.
One of my favourite dishes which i have been trying to search for will be no other than char kueh. What it actually is made of flour which is steamed until it is hardened and cut into cubes. Next it was readied to be cooked on a big flat surface which is very hot and great to balance up the heat on the cooked item. Mized with bean sprouts, eggs and the most important ingredient: belacan (special prawn paste made my locals). Eat it while it is hot. Great thing about it is not too oily, taste are well balanced, taste just nice. Try it out yourself.
I also found that their Salad Chicken Rice is quite nice. The chicken poured with thousand island sauce (which is quite similar to the mixture of mayonnaise and tomato sauce). Not sure if any other places serve better than the one over here but i will try to find out :)
Ok, let's head to the steak stall. One of the dishes i had tried is their fish roll. It is actually a hotdog coated by a layer of minced fish meat around it and finally coated with a layer of breadcrumbs as its skin. It is then deep fried in hot pot of oil until it is golden in colour and finally served in a plate with based beans, a bun, and some salad. The taste is quite interesting as the mince fish meat actually absorb the gravy and its fragrance from the hotdog itself, making it taste quite interestingly good. Definitely this is something new to me. Why not give it a try yourself for its uniqueness :)
Another one i had tried is the honey chicken chop. Same side dishes but the chicken chop is more or less like pan fried until cooked and finally poured with special honey sauce on top of it. The great thing about the chicken chop is that it is not dry and hard which makes it hard to swallow. The flavour of the gravy is quite evenly spread all over the chop. It might be just the right taste for some but i personally found it a bit too sweet. Well you decide yourself if it is too sweet.
